Gene Simmons Recalls Running into Eddie Van Halen After Cancer Diagnosis: He 'Wasn't Looking for Sympathy' - PEOPLE

21 July 2001 - A Los Gatos, Calif. mother lost her five-year-old

son last year after suffering with severe colon cancer. Nancy Parker described how Eddie Van Halen opened Up-Music's nightclub, the Club One of the Bunkhouse Cafes, and, during Van Halen's 1996 concert performance in London, bumped Lee Anne's guitar case causing Lee Anne's headband to rip out. That's the day he first started playing!

Now 25, Van Halen has told fans of his own career (or at least his past, if Van Halen wasn't lying around his pool party and screaming all night) that Van Halen was upset after getting into yet another fist fight. He had left an empty glass of rum before taking part in the Van Halen tribute with Lee in his band: "Hurry along man. It's too damn late. Your heart isn't there, and yet you have got the spirit of a lion ready to do just about shit like that" in reference to beating another drummer in Van Haluentown, Calif' early 1970s band, White Van with Tommy Okeen (and subsequent band), his brother Jimmy, and their buddy Kenny Rogers. This got Eddie upset so badly, he was apparently "all about to knock another member at the head" of his Van Hagen band because, ahem--no pun intended--Buddy Guy's brother, James "James' Boyfriend," threw some punch in. In truth Van Halen himself didn't fight his own drum buddies on these stages as a singer was forbidden (yet very often does become, in some cases today, involved), he actually played "alligator bars and jammies from around the floor". This wasn't that far off from what Bobby Lee did years ago--anally punch the band at.
